So, I started the dual knit/crochet along for the Loop D Loop books because I wanted to actually finish a crochet project. However...I am kind of wimping out. I think I am going to attempt a kids' sweater first - the Girl's Bolero - for my "niece" (really 2nd cousin) McKenna. On second thought, it'll probably be for her younger sister Mia as she is small for her age and will fit into the smallest 2-3 size for awhile and that's the size I'm most likely to have enough stash yarn for.
I liked that this design was one of the only ones at a large gauge (N hook) and I've never utilized multiple colors in crochet before (just striping, but still, it's something.) As I mentioned, I am going to try to find stash yarns for this - it calls for Iceland, which is a chunky (3 sts to the inch in half double crochet) yarn. I need three colors, 218 yards of each. Or maybe I'll just break down and get the Iceland if I can't figure out three contrasting girly colors at that gauge. Doubting it, now that I read my many requirements!! I printed out my Ravelry stash list (sorry guys, your invites are coming soon, I'm sure!) and am going over it.
The wimping out (for now) on the adult sweaters falls under two categories - 1.) gauge (size 1 steel crochet hooks are used for two of them) and 2.) pattern (scary difficult) or a combo of both with the addition of a fingering weight mohair yarn thrown in for fun!

LOL, that is cute! You will make the best decision. I think I have like 200 or so people in front of me no Ralvery....I hope I use it! LOL

Well, ya gotta start somewhere, right? There's also that sidesaddle wrap; that looks pretty quick. Ravelry's invitations seem to be going out slower and slower. I'm looking at 11 more days at the current rate. Sigh.

Don't worry, color changes are easier in crochet than knitting. You can hide the ends as you go.

that is a very cute little sweater!! I've been wanting to tackle crochet for a while but haven't really found anything that I'm dying to hook.
BTW... I put up a post of my SP gift if you want to check it out ;)

Yes I figured out why I like doing baby/toddler clothes. It is just a smaller version of our garments that knit up quick but you can learn alot!!
I say go for it!! And it will give you just the challenge you need!
Can't wait to see the crocheted bolero!

That is a super cute little sweater! You know if you crochet (or knit) one of them something you will have to do the same for the other? I have 5 nieces and one christmas I made 2 of them scarves...well the other three freaked out...so the next christmas the other 3 got knit purses.....(mind you these gals are between 19-27 now)

I think the little bolero will be a great start. I kind of shy away from crochet on small needles too but some of the designs I like in the book require it! So I will attempt it. I did attempt one in the rowan mag and it drove me nuts so I ripped it.
I can't wait to see how it all works out!

This looks like a great project to get some practice on. Very cute, and it will be better is you can use up some stash.

Very cute choice, I hope you can find some stash yarn or at least primarily stash yarn.

I still think you're brave for tackling crochet. This jacket is too cute!

I can't wait to see how this jacket will turn out! My crochet skills are mediocre at best.
