I had planned on being done with the skirt that I was making to match Aleita, but the skirt had other plans. I had decided to try learning how to use my "elastic foot"
on my serger, and after a lot of frustration and help from Jim, I got it working. However, it was rayon, with a slippery lining to boot, AND it was difficult to get the amount of stretch on the elastic right (I finally almost did after redoing the waist four or five times) and then it was just out of proportion. I had tested it first on a scrap of the same fabric, but it's really hard to tell how it will look on a scrap.
Now I have the foot adjusted so it should put in the right amount of stretch (with a little tweaking for the fabric type). It is a really cool gadget when it works, and I wanted to learn how to use it for the long-term, even though in the short-term it would have been easier to just put the elastic in a casing the traditional way. I'll probably do a YouTube video for it next time I do it to show how it works.
So anyway, I decided the skirt would be a cat blanket. It was a little too foofy and flowery anyway for the top, so I am going to go another route for a skirt for it - maybe a stretch woven (like a cotton twill) with pink accents instead of pink all over. In the next few days, I'll probably show it with something I already have and then work on the skirt later.
I also bought this pattern yesterday
and am going to make that for my co-worker in this fabric
instead of a duplicate of the kimono-style top I already made. That will be more interesting. I warned her that not all patterns are well-drafted or "turn out" so we may have to revert back to the original plan, but she was cool with that. She's made me like ten pairs of earrings and fixed a lot of my jewelry I already had, so I have to get on that project.
So here are the SP12 questions of the week:
What is(are) your favorite place(s) to knit? and
What supplies (besides yarn & needles) make the setting perfect for knitting?
My favorite places to knit are my knitting/sewing room (in a circular "cuddle lounge" I have in there) or on the newly redone "margarita terrace" (deck off my loft, next to our bedroom.) Supplies - a blanket, cats, and a beverage - lately coffee or sugar-free Red Bull, but alternatively, wine or a flavored martini.

Oh, no! Not another cat blanket! At least they're staying nice & warm. That's awesome that Jim's helping you sew.

I now know you are a professional seamstress; your use of the word "foofy" gave you away.
