I haven't had much blog mojo this week, mainly because all I've really done is work on Silken Scabbard and my actual job (that thing I do that supports my Tess silk yarn and knit fabric obsessions) has been pretty hectic. Plus they are still working on my home computer to remove the virus. Yeah, that is worrying me as it's taking a while.
However...I am off work today and have a four day weekend. I hope to get alot of things accomplished and photographed. I'm not going to say which things, as I don't really know yet. But rest assured that in four days of crafting, things will be accomplished. Kind of counter-culture to the whole Labor Day weekend thing as I plan on working harder than normal (on my chosen projects) instead of a traditional idea of relaxing.
And speaking of the whole Labor Day weekend and what it traditionally signifies re: change in seasons, end of summer - I'm OK with it. I live in a place where there are four distinct seasons and I truly love each and every one for different reasons. I really don't believe in rushing fall or any other season (hence my whole "don't use the f word thing" as summer is not yet over despite what people say.) But when it really is over, and we're into fall, I'll embrace that as it's another season I really love. Clinging to the past is never a healthy or productive way to go, and I'd rather look forward than back. I've had a great summer so far, but I'm sure I'll have a great fall and then winter as well!
I discovered something about myself (well, really just my knitting) this summer - that I, as a rule, do not enjoy knitting summer sweaters/tank tops, because I really don't enjoy wearing summer sweaters/tank tops. I have so many that I've made and never wear. I ended up spending the majority of the summer knitting non-summer sweaters like Forecast, Cable Down Raglan, Dirndl Raglan and Silken Scabbard, and I think that's going to be my approach from now on with a few exceptions. I just don't really like that many summer sweaters, and now that I can sew, I can make summer tops a lot more easily and quickly out of fabric than out of yarn anyway.
But now? Fall and winter (and really spring too, as we have cool and sometimes short springs in the Chicago area - seems to go straight from winter to summer some years) is all sweaters, all the time. So I see my sewing taking more of a backseat (of course, after I create a bunch of fall dresses, which is my plan in the next few weeks) and being relegated to a supporting role of creating coordinating skirts to go with the fabulous sweaters.
Have a GREAT weekend (holiday or not!)
Have a great time sewing & knitting! I was wondering what you were up to the last couple days. I NEVER would have guessed it was work! ;)

I don't have anything really planned for this weekend except to hangout with my Mom on Sunday, and do some sewing tomorrow. I know what you mean about summer tops. I started one last year, and I still haven't finished it. I'm more of a short sleeve, long sleeve gal if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry to hear about your upcoming dental surgery. It all sounds overwhelming, but I'm sure once you're past it, you'll be so glad to have done it.
My knitting mojo has been down lately, because my sweaters are taking forever. Maybe if I can hurry and finish the crochet trim on the one, that will motivate me to finish the other. So often I'm knitting something in its wrong season I don't have distinct times of the year for distinct yarns. But I hope to do more sweaters and scarves through the end of the year.

Sounds like you have a fun working weekend planned! I can't wait to see your silken scabbard!
I like you idea about the not knitting much summer stuff! I've knit several things but then don't wear them. Lotus blossom and Flow seem to be the only ones that don't make me hotter when the weater is warm! so I don't wear my summery knits often either!

I think that if you are working at something you enjoy, it isn't "working".
I think I started out making some lighter weight things, but I was never a fan of knitting with cotton (wool is so much more tactile) and I'm always so warm in the summer that I can't bear wearing hand knits of any kind, so I've largely abandoned that sort of project. I've evolved into using light wool (as for shawls) for summer projects while I "hibernate" from the heat--but I can't wait for fall, even though our August has been one of the most delightful in recent memory.
Enjoy your time off from real "work".

I am really with you on the summer sweater thing. I have knit quite a few of them but I don't really love them. Though I will and have worn Cherry and Goddess. But that is it. I love wearing sweaters though. You are lucky you can sew because you can satisfy all seasons with knitting and sewing! Hope you enjoy your days off!

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has trouble knitting summer tops. I always start them and I'm doing one for the SKC KAL, but I'm never too enthusiastic about them. When it's hot, I don't want to wear a sweater even if it is made out of cotton! I love winter sweaters or transitional ones. I always felt guilty working on them during the summer. I really shouldn't as most of my stuff is silk anyway. I just don't want to handle wool when it's 90 degrees outside! I'm dying to start Silken Scabbard, but I bought the yarn for the Opulent Raglan so I need to do that one first--wool or not!
