I did the seamless "hem" on Silken Scabbard and have started the braided cables for the sleeves. Here it is so far. Now I've got the Nikon (the same point and shoot I had with wifi) to do close-ups better, after adjusting some settings, but am still working on getting the colors to be true.
Here's a picture of the hem - they have you put the cable stitches on waste yarn (that's the yellow stuff here) for binding off at the end. I don't know why they don't just have you "3 needle knit" those too instead.
Anyway, yesterday I skipped blogging because I had a consultation with yet another oral surgeon re: my issue of my baby teeth that never fell out or had anything underneath along with my issue of replacing the implant I had. I'm going to be having surgery to place at least two new implants, and possibly all three, along with three bone grafts and a sinus lift, tentatively scheduled for the 18th of September. I'm nervous about this, mostly because of the "twilight" anesthesia, which is kind of a cross between local and general from what I hear* but this guy is tops in the field, does about 1,000 of these a year, and has a 99.8% success rate.
* The doctor says it's kind of like you had a pitcher of margaritas - you're awake but are literally and figuratively "feeling no pain". I'm thinking I will afterwards though, as I've already been given my Vicodin prescription for filling beforehand.
On a much lighter note, here's a preview of coming attractions:

I think the reason for putting the cable stitches on waste yarn is because you would have to purl some of those stitches to keep the pattern going. Because you are purling two stitches together, the purl bumps would be thicker and that would show on the right side of the fabric.
I had twighlight anesthesia for a couple of procedures and it wasn't bad at all. For one, I sort of woke up and could hear talking but I felt nothing. For the others, I slept the whole time. I know it's scary, but it was a good way to go!

On the whole twighlight anesthesia -- I had a dentist offer me nitrous once, and she was talking while cleaning my teeth, saying it really knocks kids out, but for adults it was more like "a two beer buzz" and I was like "Could I have the 'five or six straight shots of vodka' variety? Because that would really help me..."

I have discovered, from my MANY dental procedures; root canals, bone grafts, implants, etc, that a local and my ipod are all I need. The ipod with some good music turned up take me to my happy place and the next thing I know the dentist/surgeon taps me on my shoulder and says its over. It's never as bad as we think.

Silken Scabbard is gorgeous! Looks like it's going to drape really nicely. Of course that's one of the great things about alpaca.
I hope your surgery goes well. I'll be thinking of you on the 18th. Be sure to let us know as soon as you're able how you make out.
Can't wait to see what you'll be doing with that awesome fabric!

I can't wait to see what you're cooking up with the cool fabric! I wouldn't worry about the anesthesia. But, you know I'm all for anything with 'twilight' in the name. ;)

Silken Scabbard is really coming along nicely. Bummer on the oral surgery. It sounds like you have somebody that knows what they are doing. I like that fabric. What type is it? Knit or cotton? Guess who's fabric arrived yesterday (:-)

I'm sure it will be like a cool night out!! My MIL had an eye op with this anasthesia and didn't feel a thing. She said the only weird thing was she could see them all doing stuff and it didn't feel like it was on her. But there was a nurse holding her hand and talking to her throughout, so maybe ask for that to distract you from the action?

Love the fabric, and can't wait to see what you do with it. I've never heard of twilight anesthesia before, but you know that I'll be thinking about you and hoping that everything goes well.
Silken Scabbard is looking good.

I think I had something like that when I had my wisdom teeth out, and it went fine. I just felt really mellow. Too bad about the surgery, though.
I like that fabric a lot.

gosh, every time I come to your blog I feel like I should get my lazy butt up and go sew something or knit something,, women, how do you do it all

Oh, don't worry about the twilight sleep thingie. I've had a wisdom tooth removed with intravenous valium/versed and a combo extraction/dental implant done with intravenous valium and something else (probably versed), and it's great! My favorite part was when I told the periodontist that I was feeling nervous, and he asked "Shall we start sedation now?" with an evil grin on his face!

Silken Scabbard is coming along great! Good luck with the dentist stuff. I would be scared too. But I am sure it will be much better for you in the long run.

what's a sinus lift?

What? 2 back to back posts with pretty knitting in it? It's been so long!

I love the twilight anesthesia. I've had it a couple of times and you do feel a little loopy but very relaxed and don't remember anything that happened. My husband had it for an endoscopy and he was really funny afterward. On the way home he asked the same question over and over. Apparently his short-term memory was still gone!
I'm sorry you have to have the surgery and hope it goes well.

I LOVE the dot fabric! Good luck with your teeth. I never realized that there are quite a number of people (my sister included), that don't have some replacement teeth for their baby teeth. She had to get an implant last year when her baby tooth fell out at age 44 ;) ! Then she got her implant.
I was listening to my kids' orthodontist talking to a parent about her child's braces and missing replacement teeth a while back. However, at least we live in an age where implants are an option, even though there may be issues with those too.

Dental surgery sucks. Definitely get the pain pills filled beforehand. but what is a sinus lift? Never heard of it.
