Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! I got suckered into knitting a few gifts now as I saw McKenna (5) and Mia (4) and they told me again how much they love their stuff. How am I supposed to resist that?? I have to pick some patterns and yarn soon here as time's a tickin'. I have some turquoise Colinette Point 5 in my stash that I could repurpose for a cute sweater coat for McKenna, and Mia - I think as she loves skirts I will give her the variegated Bounce skirt I made earlier this year that I thought I'd be giving to McKenna.
McKenna's a bit of a tomboy and likes hoodies and sweater coats and Mia is like a little princess - totally girly. She looks exactly like a miniature Reese Witherspoon, with blonde hair, blue eyes and a pointy little chin. Yesterday she had on a black velvet dress with black/white "fur" (like a fake ermine) cuffs and collar, and she looked adorable. I should have got pictures of them yesterday. For Mia's twin brother, Noah, I'm going to buy toys as he doesn't want clothes. I have a tough time figuring out gifts for boys, but I got some ideas from his mom. I also may sew a few things for the girls, time permitting.
In other news, I finally wore Silken Scabbard the other day and had Jim take pictures.
Stats
Pattern: Silken Scabbard
Size: 33
Needles: size 4 and 3 Addis
Yarn: Joseph Galler alpaca from my SP12
The sleeves will be longer (full length) once I wash the whole thing. I had washed the body and it grew quite a bit in length but hadn't done so yet with the sleeves. I like it, it's warm and soft, but it's hard to find the right jeans or bottom to wear with it as it is pretty clingy (but not too tight, really.)
Here's a close-up of the shoulder cables:

and a goofily lighted one from when we were playing with the camera settings:
Conclusion: not my favorite, but I do like it and will wear it. It's actually less "off the shoulder" than I thought it might be, so I could wear it to work with a skirt, and I think I will try that next. It might be better that way than with jeans.

I love your finished Scabbard. I have to get crackin' on mine so I can do some Christmas knitting. I actually like the shorter sleeves and I'm seriously thinking of making 3/4 length for myself. By the way, there is a cute Colinette pattern book called Jelly All Stars that is all kids' stuff. There's a little boxy jacket made out of Point 5 for ages 1 - 9 years. Check it out on their website. I have it and can send you a copy of whatever you need!

OH that came out so cute! It looks really nice with jeans, and I think it'd look great with a skirt!

Robin it is SOOOOO pretty! I love it!

I bet it would look great paired with a simple solid skirt! I love the cable detail.

I think the sweater would be great with a skirt. I love the fact that it has cables, but yet seems to simple and understated.
Isn't knitting for kids that love your knits awesome? My nieces are here today and keep commenting on how "cool" it is that I can knit, and oohing and aahing over it all. The one that is staying tonight wants me to teach her to knit... we'll see. :)

Enjoy knitting for the girls while you can! Most kids seem to go through a period where handknits just aren't cool and they wouldn't be caught dead in them. Of course they normally come back around. Eventually. LOL Dan asks for socks and hats now. And he even wears them in public.
I love the finished sweater. I think it looks great with the jeans but I'm guessing it's going to look even better with a drapey skirt. :-)
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

I like it better than the one on the model! I agree about it being not as off the shoulder-y, and I definitely like the way your neckline hangs better.

I think it looks great, Robin! I loved it the minute I saw your picture pop up. I love how it is clingy and fitted and I actually like how your neckline turned out. I think the one on the original models is great but yours is much more wearable. I love it!

I agree....I love it with the jeans you picked. All you need are some boots, an updo and your ready for the town. The cables came out wonderful, too. I think it will be perfect with the lengthened sleeves post washing.

Silken scabbard looks great. You might consider making a drapy knitted skirt to match (knitted fabric, not hand knitted). It would be fluid and not add bulk underneath the waist and hip and continue the nice lines of the sweater.
I always liked giving my son Duplos or Legos when he was small and cars (Tonka trucks, Matchbox). We also got him a remote control car every year, but it lasted about 20 minutes before it broke. They don't do well if you try to drive them down flights of stairs.
