The Interweave Knits Fall issue preview is up and I really like a number of the designs. I also must say - THANK YOU INTERWEAVE for putting up so many bonus photos for each design and in so doing, giving me a unique page to link to for each design. This is super helpful. I'll just talk about the garments, not the accessories, as that's what I pay attention to in each issue.
I like Scoop Pullover, though I'm not sure how flattering it will be on.
I like Maple Street Pullover because it capitalizes on the big ruffle trend going on - it kind of reminds me of Wendy B's "Marilyn's Not So Shrunken Cardigan" though.
I'm a sucker for a fair isle yoke pullover (I already have more than one in my queue) and so I like Freyja. I have to finish Mirepoix before I begin any more fair isle projects, but I do plan on finishing that soon.
LOVE Slanting Gretel Tee - could this be any cuter? I love the whole layering thing for fall and winter.
Angelica's Coat is gorgeous , though I'd have to scale it down to look right on me.
Not crazy about Barcelona Jacket - I don't think this one is a very flattering shape. Seems like it would make anyone look wide around the waistline.
French Braid Pullover - cute, but probably not too body-flattering.
Clasica Coat - cute, but anything that says it's modeled with "plenty" of positive ease scares me. It does start at a 38". so the 3.5-3" of positive ease for that size would be enough for me - I don't need "plenty". is I know it's a coat and all, but my coats are really only 3-4" of positive ease at the most. Being a smaller person, I just can't pull off that kind of positive ease.
Nordique Swing - not sure. It has that "Swing" word in the name which usually means (for me) RUN! RUN AWAY! But it really doesn't look that swingy on the model and I like what I can see of the lace pattern. I'd have to see the schematic to see the real shape and determine if they pinned it on her somewhere.
Trellis and Vine Pullover - I really like it, but I feel like I've seen it before.
Berry and Bramble Cardigan - this is really cute, but I don't know how flattering it would be. I'm undecided.
Big Montana - Very pretty, but I won't be knitting it. Just a little too chunky. Maybe if it were 3 stitches to the inch instead of 2. (Now watch - I will probably get a wild hair to knit this one weekend and will cast on some Friday night and model it Monday morning. It's perfect for that sort of thing. But did they have to call it Big Montana? I know the yarn is Tahki Montana, but yikes. )
Alpaka Tunic - I LOVE this EXCEPT for the extreme A-line-ness of it. I'd have to modify that to make it only slightly A-line. I also probably would not make it in alpaca, as it would be ungodly hot. I've discovered that although alpaca is wonderfully soft and supple to knit with, I can't handle the heat of most of the resulting garments unless it's the dead of winter and I'm outside in it.
Everyway Wrap -eh. I'm not wowed by it. I really don't need my garments to become different things.
Farmer's Market Cardigan - I'm on the fence on this one - I think I have to see this on some real people before I decide.
Rosamund's Cardigan - cute, but I need to see it on some real people. I'm not sure how flattering it would be - usually I don't like anything that buttons at the neck like that if it then swings out, but this one seems more fitted throughout the body so it might be fine.
So that's the Fall IK preview. I'm liking it! A lot of sweaters, and no fugly designs - woo-hoo! I like this one better than the last few for sure.
So what else is going on? I lost 1/2 pound - doesn't sound like much, but after getting off the water weight from my adventures on Thursday and Friday night by Monday, 1/2 pound down the next day was good as I know it's real weight. I've been studying the Making the Cut book by Jillian Michaels that Jenny recommended and I love it. I took the quiz and I'm a balanced oxidizer - I need a balance of carbs, protein and fat at each meal (which is what I've been gravitating toward lately anyway) and my metabolism is a medium speed. Surprise, Jim is a fast oxidizer - metabolizes food quickly and must have lots of protein and has no interest in carbs.
Also, last night, I asserted myself and made dinner instead of going the path of least resistance and going out and made us two baked Perdue italian seasoned chicken breasts and two servings of medium shells with Prego sauce. I also added a "just for one" broccoli and cheese (45 calorie) serving to get some vegetables but the smell made Jim gag so now I need to save those for lunchtime. Nothing fancy, but it saved the usual restaurant meal and $80-$100. Perfect. I'm really feeling great. My diet during the day is better than that (yogurt, tuna, fruit, sashimi) but the end of the day is my challenge as it needs to be a compromise with Jim PLUS usually I am the hungriest at the end of the day. That's why restaurants have been an easy option as he can get what he wants (a piece of prime rib or a porterhouse) and I can get what I want (a piece of salmon and some rice, or a chopped salad or something.) We're still going to do restaurants and everything, I just want to get out of the routine for every day and we're working toward that.
