Well, I decided I'm done with the Uptown/Downtown Knit Dress. I just got back from lunch at home, where I (stupidly) used the serger to put the neckband on to it and it just didn't work out. I had been using the serger to construct it all the way along, and figured, why not try to use the serger for the neckline like they do in the video? Bad idea. I used the same fabric instead of separate ribbing fabric for the trim, and I think it's just not stretchy enough (although it seems pretty stretchy to me!) to make the neckband stretch enough to fit the neckline (which is huge.)
I was going to recut the cap sleeves, front, back and neckline trim, and sew the neckline again on the sewing machine this time, but then looked at it and realized it is one of those patterns that really need a belt to look good, which seem not to work well on me. "Slouchy" is not a good look on me, even if belted. I need something to be more fitted to look right. So RIP to this pattern.
Now I have to come up with something else for January. I'm thinking about either a satiny slip or something with knit fabric. UGH. This is what I hate about sew-alongs. Self-inflicted pressure.
What a nightmare. It happens to us all. I'm sure you could try a quick and easy top or one of your TNT dress patterns. You still have this weekend as well.

Oh no! But Susan is right, there's still plenty of time; especially for someone as quick as you.

Bummer about the pattern!! What about your new New Look pattern? Maybe there's time to give it a go?

Can you use the fabric from the dress and make a quicky skirt or tank top? Just cut the skirt part off the dress and add some sort of waist treatment--elastic would certainly work! I did that once with a knit dress that just did not fit at the bodice. A simple skirt was easy to salvage. You can then use a solid fabric at a later date to make a tunic or top to go with it!--Just a thought! I have such a hard time throwing fabric like that out without doing something!

So sorry to hear about the sewing mishap! I hope you can salvage the fabric as everyone suggests.

Good for you for ripping out the pattern! It takes a ruthless eye to end up with a fashion forward wardrobe, and you are well on your way! Good luck with the next one!
